The AUPERB chair classifies the research protocol as either exempt, expedited, or for full board review.
Researches that do not involve human participants or subjects, human materials, or human data are technically exempt from review.
Expedited protocols are research that meet the following criteria:
- The research poses low risk.
- The study does not involve vulnerable populations.
- The study does not involve the collection of stigmatizing information.
- The study uses anonymized or archived samples.
3. Full board review
Study protocols that do not meet the criteria for expedited review are classified under full board review.
